Apple Cider Vinegar
Description
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
We use Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in so many things and for so many things. Which means it is an important base staple in our home. This recipe is quick and easy to make and yields as much ACV as you need.
You can use any apples to make this. We usually have a variety going here in apple season. Saving the scraps from baking apple pies, canning apple butter and cider. Nothing is wasted.
After the ACV is done, you can feed the scarps to your chickens. Giving them a good natural immune boost.
What you need:
Large glass jar
Apple scraps – all sorts, including cores
Water
Sugar
Apple Cider Vinegar Mother
What you do:
Add apple scraps to a large clean jar.
Add filtered water to the jar by the cup. Counting the cups as you go along.
When the scraps are all covered by water add a tablespoon of sugar to the water for every cup of water added.
Last step is to add half a cup of apple cider vinegar – with the mother to the jar.
Mix with a wooden spoon and cover with a muslin or beeswax wrap.
Set in a cool dark place to mature for 4-6 weeks.
Strain the solids from the liquids. We usually feed the scraps to our chickens. It’s a lovely treat to them and a good immune booster.
Pour the liquid into a clean jar.
You have just made your own Apple Cider Vinegar!
